Well, my book came out Wednesday, and, for the most part, response has been good. The only truly negative stuff I've seen is from people who are having trouble distinguishing the difference between my authorial voice and a character's voice. (which is totally on me, you have to be good enough to pull that off - and I'm not there yet - [saying that, I know that there will be people who never like what I do - there's a difference])

It was good that I made The Buy Pile. Senior Tabu has taste.

People are also posting nice things over on my message boards

And some other stuff happened that was good - but I'll save that for later.

Happy Surprises

For the last week or so, every day I've been getting one or two emails concerning The Nightly News. Image sent out a printed 8 page preview to around a thousand comic shops and they seem to be resonating with the right people. So, thanks to every one who has emailed me.

There are also things like this at Broken Frontier - which is nice.

CBR Interview

Had my first interview go live over the weekend. Geroge Tramountanas at Comic Book Resources was kind enough to do the honors. Here's a piece:

How did the book end up at Image? Did you have to “shop it around” much?

Image was always my first choice because 1) it's Image, and 2) retaining ownership of my stuff is very important to me. I FedEx'ed my submission to them on a Monday, and by Saturday, they had contacted me with very complimentary things to say and offered to publish my book. My birthday had been on Thursday. It was a pretty good week.

It's probably a little long, but I think it gets across what I was thinking and what the book isupposeded to be about.

PopImage Blurbage

Over at PopImage.com, Brian Domingos is doing his monthy Previews review, and I found a really nice blurb about The Nightly News.

Moving to Image Comics, I’m excited to see a mini series from writer/artist Jonathan Hickman.

Hickman was one of the contestants in the first “CBR Idols” competition. His style looked like pages from Adi Granov dragged from a bumper for a hundred miles. They were stark with sketchy inks and a ton of attitude.

Hickman didn’t win, but now we get to see the project he’s been able to spend some time on. I for one am glad that he didn’t win at that time. It’s given him a chance to regroup and come back even stronger. Now he’s doing his own mini series – on his own terms
